Archives for category: costumes that i have made

My brother got an invite to a dress-up party a few weeks back.  So he went through my stuff looking for something to wear.  As it is winter and none of my jackets would fit him, i suggested he try on a fake leather jacket i had made – but never wore because it is slightly bulky.  Lucky for him the jacket fit – a bit tight.  I think costume parties is the only thing this jacket is good for.  The pleather jacket  came to be because i tried to adapt a pattern for a blazer to make a biker jacket with a diagonal zip.  I kind of messed up the collar – it’s just not right.

My brother also found a leopard print shirt and golden chains among my stuff – who knew i had that in my closet.  Well the entire outfit did go with the jacket especially with the kitsch black and gold lining on the inside.  I think the look he ultimately managed was : Zef.

Anne Hathaway (and not Keira Knightley – thank goodness!) will be playing Catwoman in the upcoming Batman movie ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.  It was a perfect excuse to make a catwoman mask – I thought.  I had found a tutorial to make a catwoman mask  a while back.  So why not dress up like a cat burglar and go prowling around jewellery stores?  Actually I didn’t have the guts to walk about in public with the mask, so I got ring at Mr. Price with a massive fake diamond in it and used it as prop instead.  For my mask I used cheap velvet – it is rather stretchy so the holes for my eyes are kinda big.  Well at least I can see.

I have to say that it would have been great if Marion Cotillard got to play Catwoman – a sexy cat burglar with a French accent.

I did not design this pattern. Can’t seem to find the pattern on the original website, so I am putting it on my blog for you to download :

I don’t remember which came first – me discovering the dotted fabric or me seeing the movie and then getting the fabric.  Anyway I did end up making a dress that resembles the one ‘Vivian’ wears to the polo game in Pretty Woman.  It is the same pattern that I used for the tuesday lunch date dress but without the bow at the back of the neck this time.

I am considering making it more of a pencil skirt – maybe having some wavy frills just under my bum.  I kind of like the idea of corny dotted fabric that frills. But I’m still considering it…

I woke up a bit late, as i usually discover things post-occurrence,  but apparently Waking Up Famous declared it Pretty Woman Week this past week.

Just the other day i was wondering when are they making a movie of little red riding hood that falls in love with a – wait for it – werewolf.  Seems i did not have to wait long as the director of twilight, Catherine Hardwicke is bringing us Red Riding Hood in March of 2011.  From the trailer it seems like Twilight meets The Village, but i guess i’ll have to wait to see the movie.

This all however reminded me that i had made a little red hood a while back, but i basically only have images showing part of the cape among the stuffed animals at the museum. So i took a few shot of the cape and how it can be worn – with or without the hood etc.

mwahaha!
